Lombok Earthquake Revived : The August 2018 Lombok earthquake was a 7 Mw earthquake that struck Lombok Island, Indonesia on August 5, 2018, at 7:46 p.m. The epicenter was at 18 km northwest of East Lombok, West Nusa Tenggara with a depth of 32 km. This earthquake was the main earthquake from a series of earthquakes on the island of Lombok since the initial earthquake of 6.4 Mw late last July. The Meteorology, Climatology and Geophysics Agency (BMKG) launched a warning of the tsunami caused by this earthquake.

Lombok Earthquake

This earthquake centered around the border area of North Lombok Regency with East Lombok Regency. Earthquake shocks reported by USGS have been felt across Lombok Island, Bali Island, Sumbawa Island, Madura Island, eastern Java Island and parts of Sumba Island and Flores Island. The strongest earthquake shocks are in the entire region of Lombok Island in the form of MMI VI-VIII shocks, especially North Lombok. While on the island of Bali and the western part of Sumbawa Island it is felt strong in the form of V-VI MMI.

Then Madura, Banyuwangi, Bimasa felt IV MMI and II-III MMI in Malang, Tulungagung and Waingapu. This earthquake shock was also felt by residents of Pacitan, East Java. After the main earthquake of 7.0 Mw at 19.4 WITA until 10 August 2018 at 07.00 WITA, there were 447 aftershocks, 18 of which were felt with the largest aftershock of 6.2 Mw on 9 August 2018, at 13.25.

The earthquake centered on the northern land of Mount Rinjani, not far from the epicenter of the 6.4 Mw prefix last July. Taking into account its location and hypocenter depth, this earthquake is a kind of shallow earthquake due to the activity of the Flooding Back of the Flores Back Arc (Flores Back Arc Thrust). The results of the analysis of the source mechanism indicate that the earthquake is still the same, earthquakes are generated by rock deformation by the mechanism of thrust faults.
